Recap July 2024

With July being over, it's time to look back at what we worked on over the past month. This month was all about the Launcher, Craftmoji, TT20, making a simpler user experience, migrating to our new API and progress on the new modpack update. Almost everything you see in this blog post was first released for Donators in July, with sneak peeks coming almost daily!

Before we can show you what's new, we made a survey to get feedback on the server. Make sure to check it out here

The Launcher

While manually installing the modpack is possible, it's really annoying to manage it if you add your own mods to the modpack. The moment the modpack gets updated, you'll have to reinstall everything for hours on end. Doing this quickly gets really time consuming, so we wondered how we could fix this. After some consideration, we came to the conclusion that it would be best to make our own launcher. You'll still be able to manually install the modpack, but using the launcher will save you lots of time.

The most used launcher used to play on SnackBag is the Modrinth launcher, so we wanted to make the design similar, yet unique. We want you to keep your muscle memory while also having the chance to use the features that the launcher brings.

User Experience

After receiving good and constructive feedback (mainly from Elisha and Tom) we've decided to rework the structure of the Discord server, moving channels to better categories, adding the much needed FAQ channel and rewriting the rules. You can view the new rules here. Again, big thank you to Elisha for the restructuring concepts and Tom for helping rewrite the rules.

TT20

TT20 is the mod keeping the server playable. Its whole job is to simulate a higher TPS — it works by analyzing the current TPS, multiplying it by the ticks a task needs to finish and dividing it by 20 (the highest possible tps). That's also where the name comes from. Without the support coming from you all, we would have never been able to make this mod. It's fully open-source and free on Modrinth.

Craftmoji

Sometimes when you're playing Minecraft with your friends, you have a moment where there is no better way to express yourself than using an emoji. That's why we're very excited to introduce Craftmoji! It's a brand new project aiming to bring every emoji to Minecraft. This means we're creating each emoji from scratch to fit seamlessly into the game. Our team of artists have been busy working on this, and we're already at an exciting 519 emojis.

Craftmoji is planned to be completely open-source, working on Spigot, Paper, Forge and Fabric. We'll be able to do this by using our custom server software: CottonPowered. Cotton is currently still in-development and sneak peeks will be posted to donators.

API Migration

Some of you have received a DM saying that your account was migrated to a SnackBag Playout account. The Playout API is the central database where all your statistics and data are stored. This means that your account is now running on the new API, making the bridge between Minecraft and Discord easier.

Conclusion

There has been immense progress in the last month. If you want to get more information about the upcoming modpack update, almost daily sneak peeks, playtesting and early access to custom mods, you can Donate! Check out the #donation channel on the Discord.
